Neuralink Secures $650 Million as Brain-Computer Interface Trials Expand

Neuralink, the neurotechnology venture founded by Elon Musk, has announced a significant milestone — the company has raised $650 million in its latest funding round as it begins clinical trials for its groundbreaking brain-computer interface technology.

The company aims to restore independence and communication for individuals with severe medical challenges by enabling direct neural control of digital and physical devices. In its official statement, Neuralink emphasized that the new funding will accelerate the real-world application of its technology, unlocking possibilities in medical treatment and human-computer interaction.

Neuralink’s brain implant is currently in clinical trials across three countries. The device, which includes a chip capable of decoding neural signals and sending them to external devices, is already being used by five individuals with profound paralysis — empowering them to interact with phones, computers, and other systems using only their thoughts.

The company recently received “Breakthrough Device” designations from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for two of its technologies: a speech restoration system and a device designed to help individuals regain vision. The FDA’s Breakthrough Devices Program is designed to speed up the development and review of transformative medical technologies.

This funding round drew participation from several high-profile investors including ARK Invest, Sequoia Capital, DFJ Growth, Thrive Capital, G42, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Valor Equity Partners, among others. It follows previous reports estimating Neuralink’s valuation at $9 billion prior to this new capital injection.

While Elon Musk recently stepped down from his advisory role with U.S. President Donald Trump to refocus on his portfolio of companies — including Tesla, SpaceX, xAI, X (formerly Twitter), and Neuralink — it’s clear that Neuralink remains a central part of Musk’s vision for the future of human enhancement and artificial intelligence integration.

With clinical applications already underway and funding secure, Neuralink appears to be moving from concept to transformative reality.
