FireSwarm Solutions has formed a strategic partnership with Innergex Renewable Energy and Strategic Natural Resource Group to advance wildfire detection and response across British Columbia. In 2024 alone, wildfires scorched nearly one million hectares in the province, leading to widespread evacuation alerts and impacting thousands of homes.
Innergex, a major player in renewable energy with operations spanning hydro, wind, solar, and battery storage facilities, is committed to protecting both its assets and the communities where it operates. With 22 facilities active in B.C. and more in development, Innergex is investing in new wildfire resilience strategies.
Squamish-based FireSwarm, a 2025 TIA finalist, brings to the partnership its expertise in autonomous, heavy-lift drones powered by AI and machine learning. These advanced systems offer rapid wildfire detection and real-time response, providing a crucial tool for managing the growing threat of wildfires in the region.
The collaboration will integrate FireSwarm’s drone technology with Innergex’s extensive network of facilities, enhancing prevention and mitigation efforts. Strategic Natural Resource Group is lending its technical expertise and project management skills to ensure the initiative’s success.
Innergex’s Colleen Giroux-Schmidt highlighted the significance of this alliance in safeguarding both community safety and company assets. FireSwarm CEO Alex Deslauriers pointed to Innergex’s climate leadership as a key reason for the partnership. Strategic’s CEO, Domenico Iannidinardo, commended Innergex’s history of working with Indigenous communities and its commitment to wildfire resilience.
This latest collaboration builds on FireSwarm’s previous partnerships, including work with Tsunami Solutions and recognition from innovation competitions like XPRIZE. Together, these organizations are taking a community-focused, technology-driven approach to wildfire management, aiming to better protect B.C.’s landscapes and residents.
