Cellulotech Advances Plastic-Free Future with Seed Funding for Green Chemistry Innovation

Victoria-based Cellulotech has secured a seed investment round to propel the commercialization of its pioneering solvent-free cellulose functionalization technology. This breakthrough enables cellulose—the planet’s most abundant organic material—to be converted into a cost-effective, recyclable substitute for plastics, PFAS, and other environmentally harmful substances.

The funding round was led by Neglected Climate Opportunities, part of the Jeremy and Hannelore Grantham Environmental Trust, with additional backing from Meliorate Partners, a venture fund focused on sustainability. This strategic investment will allow Cellulotech to ramp up production and bring its green chemistry solution to market at scale.

Cellulotech’s technology has broad applications across packaging, hygiene, textiles, construction, and paper products, offering industries a viable path to detoxify and decarbonize their supply chains. By making sustainable alternatives not only practical but also more affordable than conventional options, Cellulotech is setting a new benchmark for material innovation. The company’s founders, Romain Metivet and Dr. Daniel Samain, highlighted the importance of experienced, mission-aligned investors in accelerating the journey from scientific discovery to real-world impact.

With heightened demand for sustainable solutions and increasing regulatory pressure, Cellulotech is positioned to lead the shift away from plastics, helping industries meet both environmental and economic goals.
