B.C. Expands Global Tech Presence with Strategic Trade Missions to Europe and Asia

In a strategic move to strengthen British Columbia’s presence in global tech markets, two provincial ministers are heading to Europe while Premier David Eby continues to lead a trade mission across Asia.

From June 9 to 14, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, Diana Gibson, and Minister of State for Trade, Rick Glumac, will represent B.C. at three major technology events across London, Amsterdam, and Paris. Their goal: to foster international relationships, attract investment, and spotlight innovative technologies developed in B.C.

According to Minister Gibson, the mission is focused on promoting British Columbia’s thriving tech ecosystem and creating new opportunities for growth. She emphasized the importance of face-to-face meetings with investors, policy leaders, and global stakeholders in unlocking the full potential of local innovations on the world stage.

As part of the European itinerary, the province will support 16 B.C.-based companies at VivaTech, a leading technology expo in Paris. The delegation will also host a provincial booth at GreenTech Amsterdam—one of the world’s foremost horticulture technology trade shows—and engage with B.C. entrepreneurs and businesses operating in the UK.

Meanwhile, Premier Eby’s separate 10-day tour through Japan, Malaysia, and South Korea continues until June 10. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to diversify British Columbia’s economic partnerships, especially as global uncertainties—such as trade tensions with the U.S.—continue to reshape traditional markets.

In 2022, the European Union ranked as British Columbia’s fifth-largest export market, highlighting the region’s growing importance in the province’s international trade agenda.
