quA-ymn Solar Project: B.C.’s Largest Solar Installation Now Online

British Columbia has reached a new milestone in clean energy with the launch of the quA-ymn Solar Project, now the province’s largest solar installation. Located 50 kilometres southwest of Kamloops in Logan Lake, the 60-acre facility features nearly 40,000 solar panels and is the first major commercial solar plant to operate in B.C..

The project is the result of a long-term vision by the Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council (NNTC), which began development in 2011. In 2019, NNTC partnered with Calgary-based BluEarth Renewables to bring the project to life. The site, built on reclaimed land, achieved commercial operations on June 19, 2025—on schedule and within budget.

The quA-ymn Solar Project will generate enough renewable energy to power more than 2,400 homes annually for up to 40 years. Beyond its environmental impact, the facility is expected to provide stable, long-term funding that supports the Nlaka’pamux Nation’s economic development and planning. Chief Matt Pasco, Chair of the NNTC, emphasized that the project’s disciplined approach best protects and advances Nlaka’pamux title and rights, while also delivering jobs and economic opportunities for the region.

BluEarth Renewables’ CEO, Grant Arnold, highlighted the collaborative nature of the project, noting that both partners shared the risks and costs throughout development. The partnership will continue to deliver ongoing benefits to the community and region.

The project was financed in part by a $35 million loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank, marking the first clean power investment under the Indigenous Community Infrastructure Initiative to reach financial close in B.C..

In addition to renewable energy, BluEarth is also advancing environmental stewardship through partnerships with Vancouver-based SenseNet, whose wildfire detection technology has been deployed along transmission lines at BluEarth’s Tyson Creek Hydro Facility. This network of sensors and satellite-powered cameras enhances early wildfire detection and supports long-term sustainability for critical infrastructure.
